Ozaukee County clears path for planning grant
Port
Washington - On a 27-2 vote, the Ozaukee
County Board approved a resolution Wednesday to apply for a state
grant that would help create a cohesive countywide planning
document.
The grant amount could be as much as $378,000 if every town,
village and city in the county were to join with the county to
develop the plan, known as a multijurisdictional comprehensive
plan that would provide a blueprint for future development.
Development of the plan would satisfy the state's so-called
Smart Growth legislation, passed in 1999, which requires every
local municipality to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses
nine issue areas by 2010.
Officials say working cooperatively with the county will save
local municipalities money and staff time.
