Virmond Park, is
located at 10606 Lakeshore drive in Mequon. The
park is 62.5 acres, located on the bluffs of Lake
Michigan. The park is open to the public year round,
with daily hours from 1/2 hour after SUNRISE to 1/2
hour before SUNSET. There is an
abundant amount of open space for many leisure
activities like kite flying, frisbee, or just soaking up
the sun on a blanket. Dogs and cats are welcome,
if on a leash and cleaned up after.
There are two
baseball diamonds, one sand volley ball court, two play
ground areas, and newly renovated tennis courts for
those with a little exercise in mind. If a quite
stroll is what you prefer, enjoy a nice walk on the
trails that are spread out through out the grounds, you
have to be willing to share them with the deer, birds
and other wildlife that frequent the park. The
view of lake Michigan can be spectacular especially in
the early morning hours. Picnickers can grill out
on a variety of grills available through out the park.
There are two open
air pavilions available for rental at a modest price,
each has a grill, electricity, picnic table seating for
up to 100 people, and plenty of fresh air. One
pavilion has bathrooms attached that are open to the
public. The other is in a wooded setting with the
same amenities except flush toilets.
Reservations
can be made for almost every area in the park by calling
the caretaker who lives on site at 262-241-5868.
