MINUTES of December 11, 2002
Call to order: Chair Nelson called the meeting to order at 8:35
a.m.
Present were Supervisors Stumpf, Richart, Dohrwardt and Nelson.
Also present - University Extension Agents: Dan O'Neil, Paul Roback,
Mary Fran Lepeska, Kay Buelke Schroeder, Extension Staff Assistant Terri
Green and Administrative Coordinator, Tom Meaux.
Absent: Supervisor Heatwole
Approval of the minutes: Motion
by Supervisor Richart seconded by Supervisor Stumpf, to approve minutes of
December 4, 2002. Motion passed unanimously.
Approval of conference/meeting attendance and 4-H activities list:
Motion by Supervisor Dohrwardt seconded by Supervisor Stumpf to
approve expense accounts,
conference/meeting attendance. Motion passed unanimously
Election of Vice Chairperson:
Nominations for Vice Chairperson: Stumpf nominates Tom Richart,
seconded by Don Dohrwardt. There were no other nominations. Vote taken,
unanimous. Supervisor Richart is elected as the new Vice Chairperson of
the Agriculture and Extension Education Committee.
Office Relocation:
Our office is moving today. We are relocating to ground floor room 33.
Land and Water Conservation is relocating to second floor where Aging is
now located and Aging will be moving to third floor where we are currently
at.
Solid Waste – Tire Disposal:
Paul Roback and Dan O’Neil reported on the tire collection event and
other current programs.
Agent reports: – Mary Fran Lepeska, Kay Buelke Schroeder and
Extension Staff Assistant, Terri Green reported.
Mary Fran Lepeska, Kay Buelke Schroeder, Paul Roback and Terri Green
leave.
District WACEC discussion:
Tom Wilson discussed the current and potential roles of the district
and state WACEC organizations. The district WACEC meeting is scheduled for
February 24th to be held in Milwaukee.

Call to order:
Chair Nelson called the
meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.
Present were Supervisors Stumpf, Richart, Dohrwardt, Heatwole and
Nelson.
Also present - University Extension Agents: Dan O'Neil, Paul Roback and
John Meland the Chief Economic Development Planner from SEWRPC.
Approval of the minutes:
Motion by Supervisor Richart seconded
by Supervisor Heatwole, to approve minutes of
October 25, 2002. Motion
passed unanimously.
Review Revolving Loan Fund Committee’s Community Development Block
Grant Request:
Discussion – John Meland explained that Ozaukee County would just be
the distribution party for the grant monies. Dohrwardt asked if our costs
would be reimbursed, Meland replied that could be negotiated.
Motion by Supervisor Heatwole seconded by Supervisor Dohrwardt to
recommend the County Board sign the resolution authorizing submission of a
community development block grant for economic development application.
Motion was unanimous.
Supervisor Dohrwardt asked permission to leave at 8:30 a.m.

Call to order:
Chair Stumpf called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Present were Supervisors Stumpf, Richart, Dohrwardt, Heatwole and
Nelson.
Also present - University Extension Agents: Dan O'Neil and Paul Roback.
Approval of the minutes: Motion by Supervisor Richart seconded by
Supervisor Dohrwardt, to approve minutes of
August 23, 2002. Motion passed
unanimously.
Approval of expense accounts, conference/meeting attendance and 4-H
activities list:
Motion by Supervisor Nelson seconded by Supervisor Heatwole to approve
expense accounts, conference/meeting attendance. Motion passed
unanimously.
Resignation of Agriculture and Extension Education Committee Chair:
Motion by Supervisor Dohrwardt seconded by Supervisor Nelson to accept
Chair Stumpf’s resignation. Motion was unanimous.
Election of Committee Chair:
Nominations for Chairperson: Stumpf nominates Rick Nelson, seconded by
Craig Heatwole. There were no other nominations. Vote taken, unanimous.
Supervisor Nelson is elected as the new Chairperson of the Agriculture and
Extension Education Committee.
District WACEC meeting report:
Rick Nelson reported the September 11, 2002 WACEC meeting was
cancelled, however he did attend another meeting in September were he was
brought up to date on the UW budget, contract information. Communication
is still a major concern.
O’Neil reported Tom Wilson a retired CNRD agent from Waupaca County has
been hired as a liaison for the SE WACEC, relieving Jose Vasquez from this
duty. O’Neil also reported that Carl O’Connor has resigned as Dean of
UW-Extension.
Tri-County Agriculture:
Dan O’Neil reports that Washington County has not hired a replacement
for the Agriculture Agent position there and he will need to cover Ozaukee
and Washington Counties for the upcoming programs if that position is not
filled soon.
Budget: O’Neil reported on budget item changes.
Agent Reports: Paul Roback and Dan O’Neil reported.
Next meeting date: December 11, 2002 @ 8:30 a.m.

District WACEC meeting – September 11, 2002

Tri-County Agriculture
Farm Management Position Update- 19 applicants, 4 interviewed. Position
will be reposted with an October 7th closing date.
Review of Dan O’Neil, Mike Ballweg and Tina Struyk Tri-County
Agriculture programs.

Fair Reports:
O’Neil and Schroeder reported everything went quite well.
Lepeska reported on a new program "Taking Care of You" which will be a
joint effort with Aging Services.
Budget Update:
O’Neil reported the 2003 budget has been submitted and he is now
waiting for the preliminary review with Tom Meaux and Finance Department.
WACEC Executive Meeting July 25:
There still seems to be a lack of communication on the state side.
There was also mention that Ozaukee County does not have a nutrition
program and that maybe Ozaukee would like to join a partnership with
Sheboygan County which has a nutrition program already.
State WACEC Report:
Tom Richart and Dan O’Neil attended the state conference in Wausau.
Milk Protein Import Resolution:
No action taken.

State WACEC Report:
Rick Nelson had nothing new to report.
Master Gardener Report:
John Kovatch, Ozaukee Master Gardener President gave a presentation on
the Master Gardener organization with accomplishments and goals for the
group.
Plans for Statewide WACEC Conference, June 23-25, 2002:
Tom Richart and Dan O’Neil plan on attending. Rick Nelson plans on
driving up for one of the conference days.
Motion by Tom Richart seconded by Craig Heatwole
for the committee to write a letter of recommendation on behalf of Rick
Nelson to attend the Washington DC WACEC National convention. This letter
is to be sent to Chancellor Kevin Reilly with a copy to SE District
Director Jose Vasquez.

Glenn Stumpf expressed concern regarding the Smart Growth education.

Committee.
Nominations for Vice-Chairperson: Richart nominates Nelson. There are
no other nominations. Vote taken, unanimous. Supervisor Richard Nelson is
elected as the new Vice-Chairperson of the Agriculture and Extension
Education Committee.
Nominations for Secretary: Stumpf nominates Richart. There are no other
nominations. Vote taken, unanimous. Supervisor Tom Richart is elected as
the new Secretary of the Agriculture and Extension Education Committee.
Statewide WACEC Conference:
Conference is being held June 23-25, 2002 at Wausau, Wisconsin.
Everyone should make their own individual reservations as soon as
possible.
Next Meeting Date:
Discussion as to the best meeting dates and times for this committee.
At this time it was agreed to meet the second Friday of the month at 8:00
a.m.
The next meeting date: June 14, 2002 @ 8:00 a.m.
