Minstrel Show

The traveling minstrel show was an
important form of entertainment in small towns
throughout the United States from the late nineteenth
century well into the twentieth. Popular white
entertainers like Eddie Cantor, wearing stereotypical
blackface make-up, brought characters from the minstrel
troupe to even larger audiences through movies and
television. In Cedarburg, the JC's employed this
very widely accepted format for an evening of
entertainment. Today, members of the organization
sponsor various civic events.
