Central Dry Goods

The expansion of Alston’s Department Store affected all
of the structures shown in this photograph. First located
in the Central Dry Goods building, Alston’s later acquired
the space occupied by the Marine Bar and its bowling
alleys. Later still, Alston’s purchased the residence of
Dr. William Wiesler and demolished it in the 1960s to
permit further expansion. This addition is now the site of
the Cedarburg Cultural Center. Alston’s low prices, as
reflected by the price tags in their display window, may
have helped support the growth of their business. |
