The Big Snow
(Click photos to enlarge)

Snowstorms offered children in the community unscheduled holidays and otherwise altered the routine of daily life.  Probably the worst snowstorm to hit the area in many years was the one that struck in late January of 1946.  The Interurban and Milwaukee streetcars were unable to operate for days.  This picture, taken with a Brownie Reflex camera, shows a high snowbank in front of what was Gerrit's Drug Store and the A&P Store.
