Alternative Disposal Recommendations

Latex or Water Based Paint.

If unusable, remove lid and place in a well ventilated area. After contents have solidified, replace lid and place in the trash. Paint can be dried more quickly by pouring 1/2 inch layer into a cardboard box lined with plastic or newspaper or into a box filled with sand, vermiculite or kitty litter.

Drain Oil.
Used motor oil may be recycled. Bring to the Ozaukee County Highway Department located at 410 South Spring Street or contact your local municipality for further information.

Batteries.
Auto batteries may be traded in or take to the local battery retailer for recycling. Led acid batteries may be taken to a battery retailer for recycling. Household batteries may be disposed of in household garbage.

Windshield Washer Solution, Paint Brush Cleaners Containing TSP, Rust Removers, Cleaners Containing Ammonia, Chlorine Bleach, Expired Medical Prescriptions, Rubbing Alcohol, Cosmetics, Nail Polish Remover, Tub/Tile and Shower Cleaners, Disinfectants.
Small quantities may be flushed down the drain with lots of water.

Oven Cleaner, Drain Openers, Toilet Bowl Cleaners Containing Sodium Hydroxide or Lye.
If connected to a municipal sewage system, flush down the drain with lots of water. Rinse the empty container before placing in the trash and be careful not to get the rinse water on your hands.

Hearing Aid Batteries
These often contain mercury or silver. After a number have accumulated, drop them off at a hospital or a hearing aid center for recycling.

Ammunition or Explosives
Deliver to your local police or fire station or county sheriff's department.

Auto Body Filler, Ceramic Glaze, Fiberglass and Epoxy Resins, Shoe and Nail Polish.
These may be solidified and placed in the trash.

Computers  
The Volunteer Center of Ozaukee County holds two used computer collections a year.  Once in the Spring and another in the Fall.  The Volunteer Center charges $5 per component.  For additional information, call 262-377-1616.

TRY sharing unused product with others who may have a need.
