Where are you located?

In the Administration Center, 121 W. Main Street, Room 107, Port Washington, WI

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Do you have a drop box?

A drop box located on the north side of the Administration building, west of the main doors on the landing.

Do you accept postmark date on a mailed payment?

Yes we do, per Wisconsin Statute 74.69, a payment must be postmarked before midnight of the deadline date. A postage meter date, however, does not qualify as a postmark date.

Consider going into the post office and having the clerk hand-cancel your envelope to assure a timely postmark.

What are my payment options?

All payments must be made in United States Funds via cashier's check, money order, personal check or cash.

What determines a timely payment?

The payment is timely if it is mailed in a properly addressed envelope, postmarked before midnight of the last day prescribed for making the payment, with postage prepaid, and is received by the proper official not more than 5 days after the prescribed date for making the payment.

I am not sure if I am supposed to pay my property taxes, or if my mortgage company is paying them. How do I find out?

If you do not know if you are to pay your property taxes or if your mortgage company plans to, you should call your mortgage company.

What do I do if I have prior year’s delinquent taxes?

Consider making monthly installments.

If I don't receive my real estate or personal property tax bill, what should I do?

Real property and personal property tax bills are mailed in December of each year. If you do not receive your bill please contact your municipal Treasurer's office.

Why did I get a real estate tax bill when my mortgage company should pay the taxes?

All real estate tax bills are sent to the property owner. If your mortgage company pays your bill, you should forward a copy of the tax bill to your mortgage company.

What should I send with my check when paying my taxes?

Always write your parcel number or bill number on your check and send the appropriate tear off stub provided with your real estate tax bill.

How long can a person be delinquent on their property taxes before they lose their property to tax foreclosure?

Once taxes are delinquent for two years and nine months the County will initiate the foreclosure process. Example: If your 2006 taxes are delinquent the foreclosure process would start on September 1, 2009.

Who qualifies for the lottery and gaming credit?

Homeowners in Wisconsin who use the home as their primary residence on January 1st of the year in which property taxes are levied qualify for a lottery and gaming credit. Note: Your primary residence is where you live most of the time. You can have only one primary residence.  YOU MAY ONLY RETURN ONE CLAIM FORM.

What if I purchased my home after January 1st?

If you purchased a home after the January 1st date, you may claim a lottery and gaming credit. You must attest to the best of your knowledge the previous owner used the home as their primary residence as of January 1st and you continue to use the home acquired as your primary residence.

How do I get Homestead Credit?

The Homestead credit is administered by the State of Wisconsin, Department of Revenue.
