Women, Infant and Children Nutrition Program (WIC)

WIC is a special supplemental food program for women, infants, and children to help keep them healthy and strong. If your family includes a pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum woman; a baby or child under the age of five, you may be eligible for this nutrition program. WIC offers nutrition classes and counseling, immunizations for children, lead screenings, health screenings, referrals to other health services and vouchers to purchase healthy food. The supplemental foods include milk, cheese, iron-rich cereals, fruit juices, eggs, peanut butter, iron-fortified infant formula and dried beans. WICs Farmers Market Nutrition Program is available June through September. Vouchers from this program can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at various Farmers Markets. All pregnant clients receive a prenatal assessment by one of the Public Health Nurses and are given pregnancy educational materials.

The WIC program uses income criteria similar to the reduced price school lunch systems. You are automatically income eligible for WIC if you receive Medical Assistance or Healthy Start benefits.
