Good Afternoon everyone,I am
Gus Wirth, Chairman of the
Ozaukee County Board.
Thank you all for coming to this momentous occasion
It is an honor to be here with my predecessor, past Chairperson Leroy Bley
that I have studied under for 12 long years. Thank you for all the things you
have taught me and all the things you have done for me.
I can’t help thinking about what it might have been like the last time the
capsule was sealed. I wonder if those past board members and guests had the
same thoughts about what would be interesting or of importance to people 100
years from then.
I wonder what the future will have wished we had put in the time capsule we
are sealing today. Then I wonder why in the short space of 100 years, we do
not "time capsule" our own lives more often than at times like these, or
holidays or birthdays. What about other days? And what about other people’s
days? Other worlds? Other countries? I think it would be a great skill to
always know enough to take inventory of not only your own life, but of the
world, of the community, even the county. I don’t know how we could become so
all-knowing, but I do know that we should live for the moment, we should love
for the future, and learn in the present.
Thank you all for coming.
For those that do not trust the county’s inventory of the time capsule, you
are welcome to stick around for the next hundred years and look.
Thanks.
