Special Summer Recreation Program for Children

To bring enjoyment to the children and relief to their family, a 4-week afternoon program was developed 31 years ago. 2010 was the 5th year Balance, Inc. operated the Special Summer Recreation Program. The program continues to focus on providing community based program activities and field trips to children with disabilities ages 5 through 15. 1,573 volunteer hours and over 850 staff hours through Balance, Inc. were devoted to this program. In addition to Ozaukee County, the program is also sponsored by Ozaukee County Arc, Port Washington-Saukville School District, Cedarburg Woman's Club, and the Grafton School District.

The first step to find out if your child is eligible for services in Ozaukee County is to contact the Ozaukee County Department of Human Services Children's Long Term Support Intake social worker at 262-238-8200 or 262-284-8200.

Ozaukee County has limited funding for this program. Eligibility does not guarantee a child will be be able to receive services. Frequently there are waiting lists for the Special Summer Recreation Program as well as the older adolescent / young adult Enhanced Special Summer Recreation Program. Sometimes there are waiting lists for services and assessments.
